Endoscopy

At the core of the procedures offered by Glengarry Gastroenterology is uper and lower endoscopy.

Modern Endoscopy involves the use of either a rigid or flexible fiberoptic instrument to allow visual examination of the internal organs without invasive exploratory surgery.

A small camera at the end of the endoscope provides images of the internal structures of the body, allowing the Internist to view disease processes and take biopsies for further diagnostics. It can often be used for foreign body removal as well.

Upper Endoscopy (EGD)

Upper endoscopy (EGD) is a procedure that sees inside the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum—the first part of the small intestine. An upper endoscopy (EGD) can detect ulcers, gastritis, hiatal hernias, and precancerous conditions.

Capsule Endoscopy

A capsule endoscopy examines your entire small intestine. You swallow a vitamin-pill sized video capsule, which has its own camera and light source. During the 8 hour exam, you are free to move about.

At Glengarry Gastroenterology Our advanced endoscope capabilities and use of micro-instruments allow us to skillfully moved through a channel in the endoscope. These tools are used by our endoscopists to collect tissue, remove polyps or provide other treatments.

After the procedure, endoscopy results are reviewed and  If biopsies were taken or polyps removed, you will be informed of the results at a time determined by your endoscopist.
